What you’ll need:
- Cardstock or paper
- paint
- potato
- heart shaped cookie cutter
- small pairing knife
- Cut your potato in half near (wide side)
- Using your heart shaped cookie cutter, insert it into the potato until the top is flush with the flat end of the potato
- Have an adult cut into the potato about 1/4 of an inch cutting all the way around the potato until the waste is easily removed.
- Dip your potato in paint and VOILA! a potato stamp
Heart Shaped BIrd Feeder
What you'll need:
(Makes approximately 20)
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 envelope unflavored gelatin (2.5 teaspoons)
- 3 tbsp corn syrup
- 4 cups birdseed
- large mixing bowl
- heart shaped cookie cutter
- nonstick spray
- chopstick or bamboo skewer for making a hole in the ornament
- parchment paper
- cookie sheet
- jute or raffia
- Mix flour, water, gelatin and corn syrup. Add birdseed and stir well.
- Spray the inside of a heart cookie cutter with vegetable cooking spray.
- Place cookie cutter on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Spoon mixture inside of cookie cutter, pressing mixture firmly with greased fingers.
- Using a chopstick or bamboo skewer, make a hole near the top of the heart.
- Carefully pull cookie cutter away from birdseed heart. Repeat until all the mixture is used up.
- Let dry 6-8 hours. Cut 10-12 inches of jute for each heart. String jute through heart. Hang for birds.
Love Poster
What you'll need:
- Square Paper
- Red paint
- Paint brush
- little hands and feet
How to make it:
- Paint your child's right hand, cover it completely and place it face down on the right corner of the paper
- Paint both of your child's feet (one at a time if you like) place them face down in the shape of a heart on the bottom left corner
- Take the paint brush and write a letter L and E in the corresponding corners.
- Frame if you like with a different colour paper.
Marshmallow Pops
What you'll need:
- Marshmallows
- Cake pop sticks
- White chocolate
- Sprinkles
- Muffin tray
- Double boiler
How to make it:
- Place all marshmallows on cake pop sticks
- Melt white chocolate in double boiler
- Place different types of sprinkles in a muffin tray
- Dip the marshmallow on the stick into the chocolate and then dip them in the sprinkles
- Allow to dry and enjoy!
Valentine Finger Puppet
What you'll need:
- Glue
- Scissors
- Construction paper
- Whole punch
- Google eyes
- Markers
How to make it:
- Cut a heart from colored card stock or heavy construction paper
- Punch a starter hole for each finger with a hole punch, then use scissors to enlarge the circle; a child's fingers should fit snugly through the holes.
- Decorate the heart with a paint pen or marker, hair, nose, mouth etc. Glue on googly eyes.
Heart streamers
What you'll need:
- Construction paper
- ribbon
- Glue
- Scissors
How to make it:
- Cut out long skinny strips from the construction paper
- Fold each strip in half and use the fold for the point of the heart, curl the ends in to the shape of a heart. Glue the ends together. Repeat as many times as you like.
- Use the riboon to tie each heart together. String up to decorate your party.
Valentine's Day Hat
What you'll need:
- Constuction Paper
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Tissue paper
- Glue
- Pipe cleaners
- Pen or pencil
How to make it:
- Cut a long piece of construction paper to fit around the child's head. Staple together
- Curl the pipe cleaners around a pen or pencil
- Cut out two small hearts and glue them to the end of the pipe cleaners
- Staple the other end of the pipe cleaner to the headband to they stick up like antennas
- Take pieces of tissue paper and crumple into balls and glue to headband.
