10 Family Day Activities in Ottawa

Activities for Family Day 2014




1.The 4th Annual English Theatre Family Day in the NAC lobby.  Presented by Boston Pizza, this special event features hands-on activities for children and their families. Activities include stories, songs, games, interactive displays, and special workshops throughout the NAC. 


"This year’s theme of camping will be highlighted by songs around a campfire, lean-to shelter building, and even canoeing through the NAC lobby! Also featured will be many Family Day favourites from past years, including button-making, face-painting, arts and crafts, a bake sale, community booths, the Three-Minute Play Festival and Theatre Workshops. 2. "Bring your whole family to the Museum for some fun and learning inspired by the exhibit “Snow.” Learn traditional Anishinabeg snowshoe-making techniques from Daniel “Pinock” Smith, and tap your toes along with La Ridaine’s French-Canadian folk tunes. Have a wintry Canadian blast by building snow forts with Mega Bloks® and playing our giant toboggan version of Snakes and Ladders." http://www.civilization.ca

3.MPP Naqvi's Family Day Skate Party. Bring your skates and enjoy an afternoon of skating and family games. Free hot chocolate.

When: 1 – 3 p.m. 
Where: Champlain Park Outdoor Rink

Cost: FREE

4.Mayor's Family Day Skating Party on the Rink of Dreams! Free hot chocolate and special guests. This event is hosted in collaboration with the Ottawa Senators foundation, the City's Winterlude Partners and Ottawa Public Health. Come on down and enjoy skating with your favorite mascots.  All are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Ottawa Food Bank.

5. Winterlude

When: 9-9pm
Where: Jacques Cartier Park, Rideau Canal and Dow's Lake
Cost: FREE 

6. “A unique family learning adventure awaits you at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum! Explore the sights and sounds of farm life through animals, exhibitions, treasures from the collection, hands-on demonstrations, and delicious foods.”

When: 9-4pm
Where: Agricultural Museum

Cost:  Families $26, Adults $10, Children $7, Children under 3 free

7. Rideau Beach; 8 Locks' Flat invites you to join them on Family Day Campfire Sing Along. “Take a break from your skate and warm up by the fires with your family, friends and song. We'll be serving up a menu of hot soup, cold beer and warm buns.”

8. Family Day at Mayfair Theatre. Playing GREASE! 

When:1 to 3 pm
Where: Mayfair Theatre
Cost: Free with Donation to Hospice Care Ottawa

9.The ORWL is pleased again to host our 5th “Kids Day on Ice”
Open to the first 50 kids that are registered. Register orwl.icefishing@gmail.com. Theydrill all holes, provide rods, bait and volunteers to assist all anglers Hot Dog and Hot Chocolate lunch provided at No Cost to registered Kids and Guardians and gift bags handed out at the end of the day

10. "Family Day at Goulbourn Museum will feature an array of free activities for all ages. Families can pose for a photo keepsake in the Old-Fashioned Photo Booth, get creative at the craft station, play games, win prizes, and step back in time in the Museum’s replica village shop."
